Awesome

Last Sunday Graeme Holdaway told us that our God is an awesome God.

How has that impacted you this week? Is God still awesome when we hear news in other parts of the world that their world is falling apart. Is God still awesome when the threat of war looms once again over the Middle East? Is God still an awesome God when we hear yet again of a child abused in what is supposed to be care?
The answer is yes. God remains an awesome God in spite of the fact that as humans we create the atrocities that impact others. So often we blame God for the out workings of our fallen human nature, without accepting the possibility that the evil we read about and shocks us comes from inside humans.

Jesus’ one commandment to his disciples was a simple one. ‘Love one another’. It’s easy summation of the entire Jewish world of laws on top of laws.

It’s the antidote to the evil in the world.

We wouldn’t live under a cloud of anxiety and suspicion of other people or countries, if we loved them and assumed the best of them.

Despite what happens in our day to day lives, God is still in control. His ways are higher than our ways. Our understanding is limited to culture, geography, proximity whereas God sees a much bigger richer in-depth picture. Even when things don’t make total sense to us, that doesn’t mean God has ceased to be as awesome as He always has been or is. God’s greatness isn’t subject to the brokenness of this world.

That’s why Shadrach Meshach and Abednego when facing the wrath of the King Nebuchadnezzar could confidently say ‘We are trusting in God to save us but even if He doesn’t, we still won’t serve your gods or worship your idol’ (Dan 3:16-18). God remains great and worth of our praise even if our week has not turned out like what we wished.

Lift your eyes to heaven and worship the risen Christ who has won the right for you to be called a beloved child of God.

So how awesome is your God? How awesome is the God you’re putting your faith in?

Is His praiseworthiness tied to the way you feel? or only when He is blessing you? (Job 2:10).

Our God is an Awesome God, always is, always will be, let’s worship Him daily.
