Oasis first began as “The Church With No Name” in July 1998, with about 25 adults (and their children) wanting to reach the people of Blenheim and the world for Christ. To do this we would have to create a church that would be able to connect with the culture we need to reach. We knew we would have to be contemporary yet balanced, able to relate to today’s culture without compromising our values or the need for personal holiness. Some of our first church meetings were in McDonalds. This quickly changed to a variety of venues before settling in the ‘Foundry’ hall behind the Wesley Centre in Blenheim.
We celebrated our twentieth anniversary as a church in 2018. This milestone was an important time of reflection of our past and a time to look towards the future. Today we have a contemporary style of worship, and a unique family feel to our service. We would love to see you. |
OUR MISSION & VISION
In 2016 the eldership and management invested time seeking after God's direction for us. We spent time looking into the book 'Simple Church' and in prayer asking God for direction for the coming years. After much prayer and a thorough process we felt God give us the four statements for Oasis:
'Come as you are, Get to know Jesus, Grow together, Initiate change'. Our mission statements are what we do to achieve the vision of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our vision statement 'To lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ' is achieved by the outworking of our mission and based on the 'Great commission' Jesus gave in Matthew 28:19-20. In this passage Jesus asked His disciples to go into all the world telling everyone about Him, and the good news of what He has done, making disciples and baptizing them in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. We believe we are carrying on this mission in our part of the world and that the good news about Jesus is for everyone. |
