Oasis first began as “The Church With No Name” in July 1998, with about 25 adults (and their children) wanting to reach the people of Blenheim and the world for Christ.
To do this we would have to create a church that would be able to connect with the culture we need to reach. We knew we would have to be contemporary yet balanced, able to relate to today’s culture without compromising our values or the need for personal holiness. Some of our first church meetings were humbly held in Mcdonald's. This quickly changed to a variety of venues before settling in the ‘Foundry’ hall behind the Wesley Centre in Blenheim. More than 20 years on we still have a contemporary style of worship, and a unique family feel to our service.
In our logo, the nīkau palms, commonly found in the Marlborough Sounds, symbolise a place many of us locals go to refresh and replenish, an Oasis. Our only native palm also grows in Banks Peninsula connecting us to the home place of Vineyard Church of Aotearoa New Zealand which we joined in 2022.
Having two Nīkau symbolise what the wao (forest) tells us, we need more than one tree to flourish. We need the deep root touch of others to thrive. As people who follow and listen to Jesus, we acknowledge that we need a relationship with Him. To find out more about Vineyard Churches of Aotearoa New Zealand click the link below.

Our mission statements are what we do to achieve the vision of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our vision statement 'To lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ' is achieved by the outworking of our mission and based on the 'Great commission' Jesus gave in Matthew 28:19-20. In this passage Jesus asked His disciples to go into the world telling everyone about Him, and the good news of what He has done, making disciples and baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe we are carrying on this mission in our part of the world and that the good news about Jesus is for everyone.
- We desire to be a church where people can 'come as they are'.
- No need to clean up before coming to Church, it's God who does the cleaning.
- We believe life is all about Jesus, so 'get to know Jesus' talks about our ongoing growth in a relationship with Him.
- 'Grow together' speaks of our value of meeting together, and growing in our faith shoulder to shoulder with each other.
- 'Initiate change' looks to what we can do to make a difference in our community and world.
