In 2011 Oasis Family Church formed the Marlborough Community Development Trust to serve the people of Blenheim. The Trust operates independently from Oasis Family Church but has strong relational ties. The Trust endeavours to create meaningful connections that encourage, empower, and support people through life.
In 2023 the Trust rebranded to Tautoko Community Trust. Tautoko is a te reo Māori word that means: to serve, to support, to encourage, to assist and give comfort. The name captures the intent behind all our endeavours and describes the hearts of our volunteers as they serve in our community.
The Trust supports many programmes held throughout the Marlborough region including:
Jump 'n' Jive: This is a rhythm and music programme for under 5 year olds. Jump 'n' Jive combines child development with a whole lot of fun. Kids get to dance and sing while learning skills. Spinning helps develop a sense of balance. Catching bubbles or bean bags improves hand/eye coordination. Action songs and songs with props teach fine motor skills. Repetition helps children learn language skills and emotional litracy while encouraging imagination.
Jump 'n' Jive runs every Tuesday during school term time at 9:30am at The Foundry, morning tea is provided for everyone. To help cover program costs we ask for a gold coin donation each week.
Breakfast Club: Breakfast Club runs 3 days a week across 2 schools, with more than 100 kids joining us for breakfast each week. These kids come hungry for toast and hungry to be nurtured. They come for food, friendship, and for a safe space to hang out before school starts. With more and more families being impacted by the stress of food security, it is encouraging to know a kind word can redirect someone's day and a full belly will bring more focus in the classroom.
School Stationary Project: To relieve the financial burden, we run an annual stationery drive and raise funds to provide stationery for every student at Blenheim and Mayfield Schools. These resilient, hardworking schools rate among the top three highest Equity Index (EQI) numbers in our region: the higher the number, the more barriers the students may face in their education journey. We aim to remove some of these barriers and address inequalities so that education can be accessible to all tamariki.
Trust Transport: We have a van available to community groups who need help getting here to there. The van seats 11 passengers plus a driver. There is no rental fees for the van - you only need to pay for fuel. If you are a school, a charity, or a local group in need of transport, get in touch with us and we can see if we can get things moving.
